Many of the accommodations are quite unique, to give local flavour to your trip. You’ll have a private room in the homestay, but it will be quite basic and you may share facilities with the family. It’s a really authentic cultural experience.
Meals
2 lunches and 1 dinner are included on this trip. This allows you maximum flexibility to decide where and when to eat. Our groups usually eat together as it’s always more fun to share the experience, but there’s no obligation to do so.
Day 1: Arrive in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico
Your adventure starts here - yay! There are no activities planned for today apart from a welcome meeting later, so arrive whenever you like. Enjoy the beach this afternoon and head out for a few margaritas with your group after the meeting.
Day 2: Playa Del Carmen
Today is yours to spend as you choose. Soak up some sun on the beach, or if you're feeling more adventurous, take a trip to Tulum Ruins, take a ferry to Cozumel Island, cool off in a cenote, or go tequila tasting! Save some energy for partying tonight though!
Day 3: Playa Del Carmen to Caye Caulker, Belize
Today we'll cross over into beautiful Belize. There's plenty to fall in love with here, with dazzling beaches, world-class diving, Mayan ruins and a chilled-out attitude. Our home for the next few days is the paradise island of Caye Caulker.
Days 4-5: Caye Caulker
Caulker is so laid-back it's practically horizontal. Think colourful wooden houses, turquoise waters, and reggae beats. It's totally car-free as well! Mellow out on the beach with the Rastas, rent a bike, or take a snorkelling, fishing or diving trip.
Day 6: Caye Caulker to San Ignacio
We'll head to San Ignacio today with a stop at a pottery cooperative where we'll see the workshop and enjoy a traditional lunch. We'll arrive in San Ignacio this afternoon. Visit the Mountain Pine Ridge area for a river swim or take a trip to the Mayan complex of Xunantunich.
Day 7: San Ignacio
You're a free agent today! Explore the town's markets and cafes, visit some of the local caves on foot or on a cave tubing excursion, go horse-riding, canoeing or visit the Caracol Ruins - the largest Mayan site in Belize. This evening slam a few tequilas with your travel buddies.
Day 8: San Ignacio to Flores, Guatemala
On to Guatemala today! We'll explore the jaw-dropping Mayan ruins at Tikal National Park this afternoon before continuing on to Flores - a pretty island town on Lake Peten Itza. Watch the sun go down at one of the drinking terraces that look out over the lake.
Day 9: Flores to Rio Dulce
Make the scenic journey to Rio Dulce this morning. The town is on the shores of Lake Izabal and is a great base for exploring the region. This evening grab some delicious Belizean grub and a cold beer on the town with your mates.
Day 10: Rio Dulce
Rio Dulce is the jumping off point for some serious adventure. Opt to take a boat ride to the village of Livingston, bathe in the natural hot waterfalls of Finca El Paraiso, explore the Hacienda Tijax on horseback or get up early for a sunrise monkey kayak expedition!
Day 11: Rio Dulce to Antigua, Guatemala
Arrive in Antigua this afternoon, where you'll be taken on an orientation walk. With colourful colonial houses, lively markets and leafy plazas, you'll be spoilt for photo opps. Tonight, why not round your day off with a sultry group salsa lesson?
Day 12: Antigua
Today's all yours. Wander the cobbled streets, treat yourself to a Mayan massage, take a cycling tour of the area, hike one of the active local volcanoes or how about a chocolate workshop? Tonight, enjoy some sensual Latin rhythms in the funky bars and cafes.
Day 13: Antigua to Panajachel
Today we're off to Panajachel on Lake Atitlán, one of the most beautiful spots in Guatemala. Explore the town, visit the lake villages by boat or take part in some outdoor activities such as swimming, wind surfing, fishing, kayaking or horse riding.
Day 14: Panajachel to San Juan La Laguna
This morning, take the boat across the lake before arriving in San Juan La Laguna - a stunning local village where we'll be spending the night in a homestay. You'll have dinner with a family and get to know all about their life - an amazing cultural experience!
Day 15: San Juan La Laguna to Antigua
We'll head back to Antigua today. Enjoy some free time in the city. Hang out in the park, sip some Guatemalan coffee or shop for some bargains. You could also visit a macadamia nut or coffee plantation. It's the last night of the trip, so go large in the city's bars and clubs with your crew!
Day 16: Antigua
Time to pack your bags and say your goodbyes - your amazing adventure has come to an end.
