1. Mirissa Beach

Best beach for: Whale Watching 🐋

Mirissa Beach’s golden sand forms the shape of a crescent moon. The roaring waves make it a great destination for surfing, or head to Parrock Rock for snorkelling. Whilst you’re guaranteed to be spoilt for choice at Mirissa Beach, the local whales really put this location on the map. Home to a variety of species, you can see these magnificent creatures breach close to shore! Or, hop on a famous whale watching tour from November to April.

3. Unawatuna Beach

Unawatuna is one of the best beaches on Sri Lanka’s south coast. A popular swim spot thanks to its calm, welcoming waters - so jump right in! Remember to bring a snorkelling mask to marvel at the incredible offshore reef. You may even spot an adorable turtle as you explore the underwater world! 

Get involved in a turtley awesome experience, just a short journey from Unawatuna Beach. Some of your responsibilities will include caring for injured and elderly turtles, safeguarding eggs and releasing baby turtles into the ocean.
